The American Academy of Sleep Medicine published the first standardized scoring rules for sleep recordings in 2007.

The AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events: Rules, Terminology, and Technical Specifications is the result of years of research among colleagues and industry concerning standardization of practices and technology in the field of sleep medicine.
