On August 9th and 10th, 2010, Neurovirtual, manufacturer of the Sleepvirtual BWII PSG system, and Nonin, manufacturer of pulse oximeters, hosted a joint conference at Neurovirtual’s office in the Miami Free Zone, in Doral. The object of the conference was to help the distributors attending the conference to improve their knowledge of Neurovirtual’s and Nonin’s products and services, as well as helping them to learn how to sell in Latin America and Canada.
Attending the conference were staff from Neurovirtual’s offices in Bogota, Colombia, Mexico City, Mexico and Sao Paulo, Brazil working with the twenty conference attendees to help them understand the markets in those countries, as well as the rest of Latin America and Canada. Both Neurovirtual and Nonin understand that Latin America is an important market that is just beginning to understand the importance of sleep medicine in the treatment of chronic health issues.
Presentations were made by both Neurovirtual and Nonin demonstrating not only their products, but also the medical needs for those products and demonstrating how lives and health can be improved through Polysomnographic studies and the treatment of sleep disorders. The conference participants not only learned how the technology worked, but also how it helped doctors devise treatment plans that could alleviate or cure chronic health conditions such as hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy.
Conference participants were startled to discover that 20% of the world’s population suffers from sleep disorders and that 90% of those suffering from a sleep disorder go undetected due to a lack of availability of diagnostic sleep studies. As Polysomnography is a fairly new field of study, the conference participants were encouraged to help raise awareness of sleep disorders when they returned to their home offices.
